Jena's Picks: December
Sweatah Weathah
My December picks are coming in a little early, in observance of anyone looking to participate in holiday sales, and in the reality that I will still be in a food coma next week. Our theme this month is one I am well-versed in: sweaters. But not just any sweaters! Cotton sweaters. In my years of sweater-wearing experience, chunky wool/cashmere sweaters are often just too much. I love the cozy aesthetic of a thiccc layer, but unless you’re spending ample time in the very cold outdoors (couldn’t be me), they are more sweat-y and less sweat-er. Cotton sweaters, on the other hand, can offer the same look without inducing perspiration. As an added bonus, laundering cotton is a lot easier than wool/cashmere.
Top row, left to right:
Babaa Jumper No16: The creme de la creme of cotton sweaters are from Babaa. Yes, they are astronomically priced. Yes, they are worth it. If you like your sweater to feel a little heavy on your body, like a light weighted blanket while still being quite breathable, this is for you.
Pistola Eve Sweater: A good, chunky option in a lovely dark espresso color. Isn’t that sweet?
Uncle Studios The Jumper: In a sea of oversized options this F/W, slightly fitted styles are starting to appeal to me again. I can see this being a year-round stunner.
Middle row, left to right:
J.Crew 1988 Rollneck Sweater in Cotton: Extensive research on TikTok tells me this is the closest thing you’ll get to a vintage J.Crew rollneck sweater, if you can’t get your hands on an original. It’s from the men’s section and has the whole English Countryside Chic thing going on, which stands the test of time.
Everlane Boxy Sweater in Cotton: Another light option that could be layered for additional warmth, or worn alone in more mild temps.
Bottom row, left to right:
Everlane Cable Sweater in Everyday Cotton: Yes, two Everlane options. This cable knit style just hit the site and deserves to be showcased. I often think of cable knits as beautiful, but itchy, because they are typically done in wool for F/W. Here’s our solution!
Gap Oversized Boyfriend Sweater: This is a really good oversized, slightly chunky (but not bulky!) style at a verrrry reasonable price. I know, I know, it’s mostly sold out. But if you really want it, keep checking the site because a variety of sizes/colors are still popping up.
Abercrombie Women’s Budweiser Vintage Sunday Crew: While this is not a sweater, this is a reminder that crewneck sweatshirts can work very hard in your wardrobe and offer the same benefits as a cotton crewneck sweater. Style it up with straight-leg denim and knee-high boots, style it down with sweats and sneakers, style it unexpectedly with a skirt and ballet flats. This is also to address some feedback I received last month that this newsletter should include more clothing that prominently features an alcohol brand. You know who you are.
XOXO,
Sweater girl
